Internet Explorer end-of-life on June 15, 2022

Starting June 15, 2022, Microsoft will gradually transition users from the unsupported Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) desktop app to Microsoft Edge. The IE11 desktop app will be permanently disabled as part of a future Windows Cumulative Update.

If the user still tries to access IE11, they will be automatically redirected to the Microsoft Edge browser with compatibility mode on.

Effect on Basware applications

Microsoft’s decision will affect two Basware applications that rely on Silverlight technology: Configuration Tool and Workplace. Most of the functionality from these two applications is now available in our modern Basware P2P Edge user interface. But if you still need to use the legacy applications after June 15th, you can access these applications only using these options:

  1. Preferred option: Use the Internet Explorer mode in the Microsoft Edge browser.
  2. Secondary option: Use the Google Chrome extension IE Tab.

Actions needed from you after June 15th

  1. If your PC has Windows 10:
    • Check that you have installed the latest Window 10 update
    • Enable an IE compatibility option for Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
  2. If your PC has Windows 11:

Note on uninstalling IE11

Note that uninstalling Internet Explorer with "Window feature on/off" will prevent the earlier mentioned Basware applications from starting, because they will remove Trident MSHTML engine which is required by the Microsoft Edge browser for Internet Explorer mode to work.

Instead of uninstalling, you can safely disable Internet Explorer through your Windows Group Policy settings. This way, Basware applications will continue to work.

To disable Internet Explorer 11 via group policy

  1. Open the Group Policy Editor via:
    1. Press Windows + R on your keyboard to open the Run window.
    2. Type gpedit.msc and then press ENTER.
  2. Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer.
  3. Double-click Disable Internet Explorer 11 as a standalone browser.
  4. Select Enabled.
  5. Under Options, pick one of the following values:
  1. Select OK or Apply to save this policy setting.
